Sherpa

These sherpa helmets were my first attempt at knitting hats flat. I wanted to make a pattern that allowed me to work flat, and to knit the earflaps right into the hat.

Each hat is knit sideways in garter stitch with short row shaping. I added the ties and tassels after sewing up the seam.

These caps are one of several different styles of sideways caps knit flat and then sewn up. See also Sherpa & Booties for an example of the same hat worked in cotton, and Sherlock, Flower Fairies, and Pixie for other variations.
